1. Scope
1.1 This policy explains how Kairn ("we", "us") collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information. It applies to the Kairn apps, our website and the related services (together, the "Service").
1.2 Please read this policy together with our Terms of Service before using the Service.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information. Your email address, name, profile picture and plan status. If you sign in with a third-party account, we receive that account's name, email address and profile picture.
2.2 Your content. The material you give Kairn (photos, documents, recordings, text and so on), the books written from it, your conversations with Kairn, and the files you make and your settings.
2.3 Usage information. To keep the Service working, protect your account and calculate your allowance, we record the device and usage information this requires.
2.4 Payment information. Subscriptions are billed through the app store. We only know your subscription status. We never see or store your card details.
2.5 Camera and microphone. The apps use the camera or microphone only when you take a photo or make a recording. We do not collect your contacts, location or advertising identifiers.
3. How we use information
3.1 To provide the Service to you: writing books from your material, answering your questions, making files, and syncing across your devices.
3.2 To keep your account and the Service secure and prevent abuse.
3.3 To handle subscriptions and referral rewards.
3.4 To respond to your questions and requests.
3.5 To comply with the law.
3.6 We do not sell your personal information, do not use it for advertising, and do not use your content to train AI models. If this ever changes, we will ask for your explicit consent first.
4. Sharing with partners
4.1 To provide features such as AI writing, answers and speech-to-text, we share what is needed for your request with partners who provide services to us.
4.2 Partners may use this information only to provide the Service, and for no other purpose.
4.3 Apart from this and where the law requires, we do not share your personal information with anyone.
4.4 Please do not give Kairn identity document numbers, bank account details, passwords, or other people's private information.
5. Connecting other AI apps
5.1 You can connect Kairn to other AI apps you use, so they can read your books or save content to Kairn. A connection is made only after you sign in and approve it.
5.2 Once another app reads your books, what it does with them is governed by that app's privacy policy. Please connect only apps you trust.
5.3 You can disconnect Kairn in the other app at any time.
6. Data storage
6.1 Your information is stored in mainland China.
6.2 If you use the Service from outside mainland China, your information is transferred to mainland China for processing, and we protect it as described in this policy.
7. Retention and deletion
7.1 We keep your data for as long as your account exists, to provide the Service.
7.2 On the Free plan, conversations, files you make, memories and settings are deleted automatically 60 days after they were created. Your books and the original material you uploaded are not deleted.
7.3 Content you delete in the app is also deleted from our systems.
7.4 Account deletion: contact us at the email address in section 12. After verifying your identity, we will delete your account and all of its content within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through an app store; please cancel it there first.
8. Your rights
8.1 You can view, correct, export or delete your information, including exporting your books in the app.
8.2 You can turn off memory, disconnect other AI apps, or stop using the Service at any time.
8.3 Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as restricting or objecting to how we process your information and complaining to a supervisory authority.
8.4 To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address in section 12. We will reply within 15 business days.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no system is perfectly secure. If a security incident may affect you, we will notify you as required by law.
10. Children
The Service is for users aged 13 and over. Users under 18 (or the age of majority where they live) must use it with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 and will delete it if we find that we have. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify you in the app or by email in advance.
